Eligibility

The G.C.A.E. GritLife Art Contest is open to all students in grades 11th and 12th who attend New York City, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey, and Connecticut schools.

 Rules

  • Artwork must be an original work of the student.

  • This contest is only open to 11th and 12th graders.

  • Students can only submit one artwork design

  • The Artwork must include the Phrase Equitable Education in the overall design to complement/enhance the artwork.

  • All Entries must be submitted electronically.

  • Artwork should be submitted as a high resolution (e.g., minimum of 2,400 pixels by 2,400 pixels) image of the student’s original artwork.

  • Each file must be under 5 Megabytes in size.

  • Artwork must be submitted in .jpg or .png format.

  • Accepted mediums are as follows:

  1. Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc. 

  2. Drawings: colored pencil, graphite, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal 

  3. Collages: must be two dimensional 

  4. Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints 

  5. Mixed Media 

  6. Computer-generated art 

All artwork must be submitted by a parent, legal guardian, or teacher of the student.

Work must be original in nature, concept, design, and execution and must not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any work deemed in violation of these laws will not be accepted. For more information on copyright laws, please visit https://arsny.com/artists-rights-101/.

Submission of Artwork

 The G.C.A.E. GritLife Art Contest submission starts on April 25, 2022, and concludes on May 31, 2022, at 11:59 pm E.S.T. Only one entry per student will be accepted. Any additional work will be inadmissible and not considered.

Criteria

Artwork entries will be evaluated based on originality, imagination, composition, aesthetic and thought-provoking appearance, innovation, and interpretation of the phase Equitable Education.

Judging

A selection committee will review artwork submissions based on the
following criteria: 

  • Interpretation of the theme 

  • Technical skill

  • Originality 

The winner selected will receive the following:

  • a cash scholarship of $500

  • winning artwork will be displayed on our flagship GritLife products (posters, T-shirts, and other promotional products). 

  • 15% of all proceeds from these promotional products will go directly to the winning entry.

How to Submit Artwork:

Step 1: Create a digital image of your artwork

Scan or take a picture of your artwork. If you are taking a picture of the artwork, do your best to take the picture directly over the artwork so there are no glares/ shadows, and the artwork does not appear at an angle.

Step 2: Save your digital image as a .jpg or .png

Use the following naming convention: Student Full Name grade level_file name.jpg (or .png) EX: Amber Ruiz11Artwork.jpg (or.png). The MAX file size is 20 MB.

Step 3: Complete the Release Forms.

  • Standard Artwork & Photo Release

  • Photography & Video Release

  • Artwork Release

Step 4: REVIEW AND FILL IN ALL FORMS BEFORE SUBMITTING FINAL ARTWORK (PARTIAL APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED).


 

I – Standard Artwork & Photo Release

I hereby confer that Gritty Cherries, Inc. has the absolute and irrevocable right and permission, with respect to all original artwork created and submitted by me, including paintings and drawings in any medium, including but not limited to: watercolor, oil, acrylic, casein, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pencil, ink, graphite or other medium (“artwork”) and to any photographs, video, and other media taken of me: 

a) To copyright the same in Gritty Cherries, Inc. name or any other name that it may select; 

b) To use, re-use, publish and re-publish the same in whole or in part, separately or in conjunction with other photographs, in any medium now or hereafter known, and for any purpose whatsoever, including (but not by way of limitation) illustration, promotion, advertising and trade, and; 

c) Whenever possible, Gritty Cherries, Inc. will include or attribute my name(s). 

These materials may be published by Gritty Cherries, Inc. and include but are not limited to: network and local news programs, websites, distributed printed and original materials, in publications, future Gritty Cherries, Inc promotional products and on social media. 

I hereby release and discharge Gritty Cherries Inc. from any and all claims and demands ensuing from or in connection with the use of the artwork or photographs, including any and all claims for libel, invasion of privacy and for copyright infringement. 

This authorization and release shall inure to the benefit of the legal representatives, licensees and assigns of the artists and photographers as well as the person(s) for whom the artwork was created or for whom the photographs were taken. 

I have read the foregoing and fully understand the contents hereof. I represent that I am the person named below, or the person’s authorized parent or guardian.

II - PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RELEASE

I, the undersigned, hereby grant permission to Gritty Cherries, Inc. and its officers, employees, agents, and representatives to use photographic and video images taken of me and/or my child(ren). I grant permission together with the right to use, publish, copyright, and reproduce in whole or in part any such images in agency publications such as newsletters and magazines, and to use such images in electronic versions on agency websites or other electronic form or media for any legitimate purpose of Gritty Cherries, Inc.

I hereby waive any right to inspect or approve the finished photographic or video images or printed or electronic matter that may be used in conjunction with them now or in the future, whether that use is known to me or unknown, and I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising from or related to the use of the photograph.

I hereby voluntarily release and hold harmless Gritty Cherries, Inc. from any and all liability arising out of or in any way related to the use of such images, video footage, and comments, including but not limited to any liability arising by virtue of any blurring, distortion, alteration, illusion, editing, or use in composite form, whether intentional or otherwise, that may occur in the making or processing of the finished product.

I am 18 years of age or older and I am competent to contract in my own name. I am the parent or guardian of the child photographed or videotaped and I am competent to contract for them. I have read this release before signing below, and I fully understand the contents, meaning, and impact of this release.
